Shakesport have been running something of a Grand Experiment: what happens when you 1) choose Will's very best scenes, 2) rehearse and stage them, as a Company of Players, much like the original productions, with intimacy, immediacy, and a dose of insanity, but then 3) invite the audience to join in by choosing scenes, casting roles, and introducing whatever brilliant craziness they can dream up into the mix? The results thus far have proven kind of chaotic, sometimes profound, but always, and maybe most importantly: so much fun!

In “Gimme Your Guns” directed by Lauren Winnenberg, Holly Souchack lays out her brilliant and not at all wild plan to solve our problems here in the States. Of course, as a true democracy does, there will be a vote at the end. So, if Holly can’t convince you she’s incredibly responsible and will handle your arms perfectly, you can vote no. Edward R. Murrow was one of the “greats” in American Journalism, a forefather of news broadcasting who left his mark on both the industry and the times.

MURROW by Joseph Vitale examines excerpts from his singular career, including broadcasting from London during the Blitz; his on air take down of Senator Joseph McCarthy and the House Un-American Activities Committee; and his eye witness account of the horrors he saw at Buchenwald concentration camp in Germany while he was embedded in General Patton’s Third Army.

One Performance only. An audience talk back with the playwright, director and journalists, moderated by retired CBS News writer Frank Lobuono will follow the performance.

“Fa la Femmina” is an expression that means “be a lady” or “behave, you’re a woman” etc…This is what my Nonna said to me before she died on my last visit to Italy in 2006.  

Village Stories (Fa la Femmina) is a collage of characters and stories from my Italian ancestry in one small Southern Italian town, ESPECIALLY the women. Village Stories weaves music and storytelling to tell the universal story of how the past informs our present and future. It explores the violence, the suffering, the joys and the never-ending ENDURANCE of these people of the Earth who kept moving forward in spite of everything.

Take 4 Brilliant Playwrights and ask them to write a short play. Take one group of Courageous Actors to Perform these plays sight unseen. Put the names of the actors in one hat. Put the names of characters in the play in another hat. Now the casting begins — pull the name of an actor Out of the Hat. Pull the character description Out of the Hat. Give the actors a script which they have never seen before and 5 minutes to prepare before presenting a fully staged reading. A wild, unpredictable, often hilarious evening of new works!
